legal-liabilitySmalll businesses and non-profit organizations like Joomla CMS because of its GNU General Public License which allows for the highest level of flexibility related to what you can do with your Joomla website.

However, there are some potential legal liabilities that you should keep in mind related to additional items that may be added to the Joomla CMS core such as:

  • having your customer website information compromised leading to the loss of their confidentiality, business revenue, profits & reputation. This is especially true if you're dealing with onsite credit card processing.

  • using non-GPL Joomla extensions (components, modules, plagins) without a proper license. Considering that Joomla Extensions Directory only publishes GPL extensions, only extensions listed in Joomla Extensions Directory should be considered.

  • using non-GPL Joomla templates without a proper license. Some Joomla template companies only publish php portions of their code using GPL version 2.0 but all images, cascading style sheets and included javascript files are NOT GPL.

  • using copyrighted media (images, videos, text) without a proper license.

What additional legal liabilities are you concerned about when it comes to your Joomla website? What do you do to minimize potential legal liabilities?
