wordpress-joomla-drupal.gifIn the open source world, online communities are obsessed with comparing Drupal, Joomla and Wordpress. The bad part about this is that they all serve different target audiences and have relatively little overlap except that they are all open source products that you can download for free and use any way you would like:
  • Wordpress is the best for simpler sites and blogs that produce a lot of content.
  • Joomla is the best for small business sites with a need for functionalities and cost reduction.
  • Drupal is the best for large scale, complex and custom sites where project costs are a secondary issue.
I was intrigued when Steve Burge advised a while back that the threat to these open source CMS solutions does not come from each other (which makes sense just from 3 points above) or other CMS platforms. Instead the biggest threat could come from hosted CMS solution providers which eliminate a need for buying hosting, setting up sites and maintaining them.

I too noticed that some of our own clients in non-profit, real estate and other markets simply get overwhelmed by all different options and possibilities of Joomla CMS. Even after Joomla designers implement their design, complete all functionalities and provide training related to populating content, small business owners simply don’t know or have time to use the tool effectively to produce a positive ROI.

Hubspot Then, a friend of mine told me about Hubspot which is an integrated marketing software that helps small businesses to be found online and easily convert leads. It sounds like something Joomla business owners would love to have, right? They say that by creating content, utilizing their easy to use CMS, blogging engine, optimization tools, social media monitoring and email marketing, you can capture leads, nurture them,  benchmark against your competition and figure out which marketing channels provide the best ROI. Now, why couldn’t Joomla small business users do the same with their site?

Well, we’ll find out soon because my goal in the coming days is to provide a fair and independent comparison between Joomla and Hubspot. I feel that finding and understanding weaknesses and strengths of each product/service will only result in a better online presence for a small business owner.
