Require only email for resetting your password

If you happen to lose your Joomla or Virtuemart password, and click on "Forgot Your Password?" on default Joomla installation, you will notice that you will be asked to insert both your username and email address for that account. However, what if you don't remember your username and/or your username and password were autogenerated during silent user registration .

So what does a frustrated Joomla user or shopper do on your site then? They either contact you directly or even more likely go somewhere else to do their shopping and meet their needs. To avoid this, please let me present a simple solution.

The best way to address the lost password issue is to only require email address. If you only require a user to enter email, then a corresponding username and password (both modified) will be emailed to the email address provided if such email exists in the database.

Although making this change is relatively easy in php code, the change cannot be completed within the Joomla Control Panel and requires a high level of programming expertise and careful testing.Therefore, I would advise you to contact our Joomla Web Developer for assistance on this particular task.
