“When you have a minute, please visit the website and take a look. I need your input, if you have any quick advice that would be very welcome! Thanks.”I am often asked a similar question from new and existing clients. While the question may have good intentions, it makes no sense for the following reasons:
1. What problems do you want me to solve by looking at your Joomla site? Based on business problems that you’re trying to address, the recommendations may be completely different.
2. What business opportunities do you try to capture that you may be missing now? Based on how you ordered your business priorities, the opportunities recommended could be very different.
So what would have been a question that I would have liked to be asked instead?
“Ogy, as you know, we've recently developed our Joomla & Virtuemart ecommerce website. I'd appreciate an opportunity to discuss how to generate more new customers and increase their lifetime value as I’m currently below my target by 25% but believe there is plenty of room in the marketplace with the right online marketing strategy.” This new question is a lot better because it’s more specific and it tells me about issues and opportunities that you are trying to address.
What do you think? Am I being too critical? :-)
